Basic Biographical Details Name: | James Black | Designation: | | Born: | 28 September 1913 | Died: | 18 August 2000 | Bio Notes: | James Black was born on 28 September 1913, the son of James Black, colliery manager, and his wife, Margaret Ramage Simpson. He studied at Glasgow School of Architecture from September 1934. He visited the Paris Exhibition in July 1937 and obtained his diploma in June 1939, exempting him from the RIBA final exam. He was admitted ARIBA on 9 October 1939, his proposers being William James Smith, T J Beveridge and William Ross. At that time he was working as assistant to James Davidson & Son in Coatbridge, and was living in Airdrie. He was a member of the RIBA at the time of his death though not the RIAS and was still in the west of Scotland.
He died aged 86 on 18 August 2000 at Victoria Hospital, Rothesay.
