Bio Notes: John Edward Martin was born on 16 August 1911, the son of John Martin, farmer and his wife Mary Paterson. He was articled to Robert Robb Gall from August 1927 to August 1931. From September 1931 to July 1935 he studied full-time at Aberdeen School of Architecture, before joining James Brown Nicol of Kelly & Nicol as assistant in the latter month. He obtained his diploma from Robert Gordon's College in July 1936 and passed the professional practice exam, remaining with Nicol until January 1937. He was admitted ARIBA on 19 June 1939, his proposers being R Leslie Rollo, Nicol and John Gibb Marr. By that time he had secured an appointment in the architecture and civil engineering practice of Tawse & Allan, and he was living at 'Arnwell', Banchory-Devenick. By 1950 he appears to have moved into Aberdeen. He later moved to Edinburgh.

Martin died at his home on 10 September 1994, survived by his wife, Jessie Alice Ramsay, and his daughter who lived with her parents.
