Bio Notes: John Charles Richardson was born on 5 December 1912, the son of H=James Richardson, customs and excise officer, and his wife Grace Smith Matheson. He was articled to the Huntly practice of Sutherland & Taylor, receiving tuition from Taylor, who was probably William Logan Taylor. On completion of his apprenticeship in 1933 he commenced three years' full-time study at Aberdeen School of Architecture, where he obtained his diploma and an exemption from the RIBA final examination in 1936. He was admitted ARIBA on 12 April 1937, his proposers being James Brown Nicol, John Gibb Marr and R Leslie Rollo. By that time he had secured an appointment in the Aberdeen City Architect's Department under the then City Architect Alexander Buchanan Gardner, whilst continuing to live in Huntly at 'Brohemie', Richmond Road. By 1950 he had moved to the post of District Surveyor in the Ministry of Works (later Department of the Environment) in Aberdeen. He was elected FRIAS in 1953.

He retired on 31 December 1972 amd resigned his membership of the RIBA the following year. He died in Woodend Hospital, Aberdeen on 10 March 1990, survived by his wife Dorothy Walker and his married daughter, Julia.
