Basic Biographical Details Name: | Douglas Beaton | Designation: | | Born: | 30 March 1912 | Died: | November 1998 | Bio Notes: | Douglas Beaton was born on 30 March 1912, in Torphins, Kincardine O'Neil, the son of Farquhar Beaton, foreman baker, and his wife, Isabella Forbes Singer who had married in Inverurie in 1894. . He was articled to Edwin L Williamson from 1 July 1930 to 20 August 1933, attending part-time classes in the School of Architecture, Robert Gordon's College, Aberdeen. He continued his studied for three years full-time, travelling in Derbyshire in the 1934 vacation and working in Williamson's office in the academic holidays of 1936. In the latter year he obtained his diploma, and on 25 January 1937 he commenced as an assistant in the officew of J L Denman & Son of Brighton. He was admitted ARIBA on 12 April that year, his proposers being R Leslie Rollo, Alexander George Robertson Mackenzie and John Gibb Marr.
Beaton remained in England thereafter, working as a 'provincial architect' until his retirement in 1977, at which time he was based in Winchester.
