Bio Notes: Alexander William Gemmill Black was born in 1902 or 1903, the son of William Black, farmer, and his wife Mary Gemmill. He practised as an architect and surveyor. He entered into partnership with Arthur Frank Shapley in Ardrossan in 1933.

Black died on 4 June 1962, survived by his wife, Jean Caldwell McCallum Smith, and at least one son.
