Thereafter he studied full-time at Aberdeen School of Architecture, gaining his diploma in June 1925 and his post-diploma in June 1926. During this period he spent Christmas, Easter and summer holidays assisting in the office of John Grant Chisholm. He passed the Professional Practice exam in July 1926 and was admitted ARIBA on 29 November that year, his proposers being Robert Gordon Wilson junior, John Wilson Walker and James Bow Dunn.
