Bio Notes: Thomas Harley was probably a native of Dunfermline. He commenced his apprenticeship in an unknown practice in 1913 but his training was interrupted by war service three years later. After the war he continued his studies, obtaining his diploma at Edinburgh College of Art in 1922. This was followed by a year's practical office experience, again with an unknown firm, before he moved to London. He studied at the Architectural Association atelier in 1923-4 whilst employed in the office of James Ernest Franck, and in 1925 he took up a post as assistant to Philip Dalton Hepworth and entered the Royal Academy School of Architecture. He was admitted ARIBA on 29 March 1926, his proposers being Hepworth, Franck and another (whose signature is illegible). At that time he was still working for Hepworth in London although he gave a private address of 15 Dewar Street, Dunfermline.
