Basic Biographical Details Name: | Alexander Duff Robertson | Designation: | | Born: | 1807 | Died: | 1886 | Bio Notes: | Alexander Duff Robertson was born in 1807 and practised primarily as a topographical draughtsman, landscape painter and portraitist. The excellence of his pen and wash drawings of architecture, comparable with those of Robert William Billings, suggests that he had trained as an architect. He was appointed Second Master at Glasgow School of Design when it opened in January 1845, but differences with the head master, Henry McManus, particularly over the teaching of the perspective class, resulted in both being dismissed in 1848. He exhibited at the RSA 1848-1881 and at the Glasgow Institute in 1861 and 1878. Robertson died in 1886. | Private and Business AddressesThe following private or business addresses are associated with this : | | Address | Type | Date from | Date to | Notes | | Glasgow, Scotland(?) | Private/business | | | |
