He practised as an architect in New Elgin. He formed a partnership with George Sutherland which was dissolved on 31 December 1903. Thereafter he carried on business on his own account in Elgin. He died aged 84 on 2 April 1931. His left heritable estate of £613 7s. He was survived by his wife Annie Jenkins.
