Basic Biographical Details Name: | Henderson & Miller Robertson | Designation: | | Born: | 1903 | Died: | c. 1907 | Bio Notes: | Richard Henderson was born at Castlegrove, Hoddam, Dumfriesshire on 7 July 1860, the son of Walter Irving Henderson, builder, and his wife Elizabeth Riddell. He was presumably articled to his father. On 22 June 1883 he married Catherine Fraser at Pennershaughs Cottage, Middlebie, Dumfriessshire, the ceremony being conducted by the Free Church minister at Ecclefechan.
He moved to Glasgow, first working as a mason and then as an architect and builder, specialising in tenements on the south side of the city. Some of these have good Art Nouveau details, suggesting that he had acquired an able assistant from one of the better Glasgow offices.
In 1903 he joined O Miller Robertson in the short-lived partnership of Henderson & Miller Robertson. Robertson appears to have commenced his career as an employee of D Stewart & Co Ltd, who were manufacturers of sugar refinery machinery: he may have provided designs for the associated buildings. His home addresses suggest a degree of affluence which does not appear to have been related to his practice. The partnership lasted until about 1907.
Henderson was one of the pioneers of reinforced concrete construction in Glasgow. He died of cerebral haemorrhage at Craigiemichael, Innellan on 4 April 1919. | Private and Business AddressesThe following private or business addresses are associated with this : | | Address | Type | Date from | Date to | Notes | | 116, Hope Street, Glasgow, Scotland | Business | Before 1904 | c. 1907 | |
