Basic Biographical Details Name: | Richard Henry Brunton | Designation: | | Born: | December 1841 | Died: | 24 April 1901 | Bio Notes: | Richard Henry Brunton was born in December1841 in Fetteresso, Kincardineshire, the son of Richard Brunton and his wife Margaret Telfer. He trained as an engineer and after serving as chief engineer to the lighthouse department of the Japanese Government where he built thirty lighthouses, thirteen beacons and three buoys between October 1868 and March 1874, he returned to Scotland. He worked as manager of Young' s Paraffin Company of Glasgow and later bought, in conjunction with a young partner, a manufacturing business which produced architectural ornament. He ran his company for fifteen years 'acquiring during that period an extensive knowledge, not only of architecture and artistic ornamentation, but also of the details of special classes of buildings, such as theatres, hotels and large dwelling houses'.
