Basic Biographical Details Name: | Robert Woodcock | Designation: | | Born: | 26 May 1912 | Died: | 20 January 1970 | Bio Notes: | Robert Woodcock was born on 26 May 1912, the son of Robert Woodcock, cartographer, and his wife Isabella Bird Hewitt. He was articled in an unidentified Edinburgh office for five years from 15 May 1928, studying part-time at Edinburgh College of Art under John Begg. On completing his apprenticeship he continued to study for two years full-time, receiving his diploma and final exemption in June 1935. He was admitted ARIBA on 2 December that year, his proposers being Begg, Arthur Forman Balfour Paul and Reginald Fairlie. At that time he was undertaking a year's post-graduate course in the School of Architecture, Edinburgh College of Art, for which he had obtained a scholarship. His travels prior to that date had consisted of two weeks in Holland in April 1934 and two weeks in Paris in April-May 1935. He was also an Associate of the Edinburgh Architectural Association.
Woodcock may also have had a qualification in town planning as he was AMTPI before 1950. At that date he was working for the Department of Health in Scotland.
