Basic Biographical Details Name: | Leslie Howard Hill | Designation: | | Born: | 30 January 1908 | Died: | 4 January 1982 | Bio Notes: | Leslie Howard Hill was born on 30 January 1908, the son of Howard Hill, calenderer, and his wife, Maria Caroline Whyte. He attended day classes at Edinburgh College of Art from October 1926. In October 1929 he entered the office of Harold Ogle Tarbolton as junior assistant, remaining there until March 1932. He then returned to full-time study, receiving his diploma in June 1934. He was admitted ARIBA on 21 October 1935, his proposers being Tarbolton, John Begg and Reginald Francis Joseph Fairlie. His nomination papers state that he had travelled in Italy, France, Belgium, Germany, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Holland and Switzerland prior to that time. By 2 December 1935 when he signed his declaration accepting his admittance, he had moved to London; the declaration was witnessed by Margaret B Davies of 22 Millbank, London. Also in his preliminary statement dated 1 July 1935 he gives 5 Romney Street, London as his address.
At some point Hill returned to Scotland and died at his home in Blairgowrie on 24 January 1982. He was married twice, first to Anne Willison and second to Mary Cecelia Collinson
In 1939 Hill was living at Dunsley, Riverside Avenue, Broxbourne, Hertfordshire.
