Bio Notes: Hugh Griffith Jones was born in Wisconsin in the United States of America on 3 December 1872. He studied at the University of Minnesota and trained in the office of George E Bertrand in Minneapolis. He practised in Chicago for five years and was afterwards assistant in the offices of Frank S Lowe, Ernest Flagg and James Brite, New York City.He moved to Canada in 1908 as designer with the Architectural department of the Candian Pacific Railways and was promoted to chief assistant in 1909.

In 1912 he started business on his own account in Montreal and undertook a wide range of work there. He was elected FRIBA in 1911.
