Bio Notes: John Stormont Porter was born in 1891, a native of Edinburgh and was articled to James Graham Fairley. In 1912 he emigrated to Canada, settling in Winnipeg and taking a salaried post as an assistant in the Province of Manitoba Architect's Department. After war service overseas, he returned to Canada in 1919 and settled in Vancouver. Two years later he joined the firm of McCarter & Nairne where he remained for the rest of his career, latterly being taken into partnership.

He died in 1955.
