| Bio Notes: | John James Murray was born in Kirkcaldy in Fife. He attended Heriot Watt College, Edinburgh and graduated with a first class honours degree. Thereafter he returned to Kirkcaldy and was articled to William Birrell for five years. In 1911 he emigrated to Canada settling in Hamilton, Ontario. He worked as an assistant in a number of offices there from 1911-1914. After war service he returned to Hamilton and joined the practice of McPhee, Kelly & Darling as an assistant. In 1937 he was appointed to the staff of the Provincial Architect's Department in Toronto and remained there for two years before joining the Department of National Defence (Air Force), Architect's Department. In 1944 he returned to his post with the Provincial Architect's Department in Toronto where he remained for the rest of his career. He died in 1952. |
