Basic Biographical Details Name: | William Baillie | Designation: | | Born: | 18 February 1893 or 18 February 1895 | Died: | | Bio Notes: | William Baillie was born on 18 February 1893 (or 1895? - unclear on GSA roll) and, so far as we know, was unrelated to the William Baillie born in Perthshire in 1875. He was articled to Lennox & MacMath in 1910, studying at Glasgow School of Art and Royal Technical College. On completion of his apprenticeship he spent two years as an improver with John Hamilton and his son Arthur at 112 Bath Street. Probably after war-time work - he does not appear to have served in the forces - he spent three years in 'various offices' probably in London as it was there he passed the qualifying exam in June or July 1922. He was admitted ARIBA later that year, his proposers being John Hamilton, Colin Sinclair and Alexander Nosbet Paterson. Thereafter he practised for a time from his home in Scotstoun but his subsequent career is as yet unclear. | Private and Business AddressesThe following private or business addresses are associated with this : | | Address | Type | Date from | Date to | Notes | | Oakbank/Oak Bank, Muirhead, Chryston, Lanarkshire, Scotland | Private | Before 1911 | After 1917 | | | London, England(?) | Private/business | c. 1919(?) | c. 1922(?) | | | 78, Park Drive South, Scotstoun/Whiteinch, Glasgow, Scotland | Private/business | Before 1922 | After 1924 | |
