Basic Biographical Details

Name: Ernest Milbourne Swinnerton Pilkington
Designation: Architect
Born: 30 December 1858
Died: 19 June 1925
Bio Notes: Ernest Milbourne Swinnerton Pilkington was born in Wakefield Yorkshire on 30 December 1858, the second son of Lionel Milbourne Swinnerton Pilkington, Baronet of Nova Scotia and Deputy Lieutenant whose ancestral home was Chevet Hall, Wakefield and his wife Isabella Elizabeth Georgiana Kinleside. Ernest M S Pilkinton studied for the degree of BA at Trinity College, Cambridge and then studied architecture in London.

He would seem to have practised in London and entered into partnership with his former apprentice and assistant Laurence Kirkpatrick Hall in 1897; he does not appear in the British Architectural Library/RIBA 'Directory of British Architects 1834-1914'. The partnership lasted until 1900, Hall continuing to practise alone thereafter. Nothing is known of Pilkington's subsequent career.

Pilkington died in 1925 aged 66. He never married.
