Bio Notes: James MacFarlane practised as an architect and lived at Woodside Cottage, Doune, Perthshire. He was an active elder of the parish church and several times served as Master of the local Freemasons' Lodge. He died on 12 May 1857. He was succeeded by his son, also James MacFarlane, who was an engineer and who was born in 1811 and died in 1863.
