Basic Biographical Details Name: | Frederick George Sturrock | Designation: | | Born: | 5 November 1896 | Died: | 8 July 1970 | Bio Notes: | Frederick George Sturrock was born on 5 November 1896, the son of George Sturrock, joiner, and his wife Mary MacDonald. He was articled to H & F Thomson of Dundee from 1911, attending classes at Dundee Technical College and School of Art. His career was interrupted by war service from 1915 to 1920 but in the latter year he joined building contractor G N Sturrock of Lochee, presumably a relative, as draughtsman. In 1925 he entered the Works Department of Dundee Education Authority and in 1930 took up a post in the City Architect's Office. He was still there when he was admitted ARIBA on 6 December 1937, his proposers being William Salmond, John Donald Mills and Charles Geddes Soutar. His declaration of 15 January 1938 accepting his admittance was witnessed by Robert Dron, a fellow assistant in the office. Sturrock was also an Associate of the Dundee Institute of Architects.
