Basic Biographical Details Name: | Margaret Robertson Mathers (Mrs Sutherland) | Designation: | | Born: | 8 August 1913 | Died: | 15 December 1991 | Bio Notes: | Margaret Robertson Mathers (Mrs Margearet Robertson Sutherland) was born on 8 August 1913, the daughter of Robert Pirie Mathers, surgeon, and his wife, Dinah Eliza Smith. She studied at the Bartlett School of Architecture in London from October 1932 until July 1937, passing the qualifying exam at University College, London in the latter month. She then returned to Dundee where she joined Maclaren Soutar Salmond as assistant two months later. She was admitted ARIBA on 5 December 1938, her proposers being William Salmond, Patrick Hill Thoms, and Charles Geddes Soutar who claimed in his statement to have known her since 1920, when she was only seven years old. She was a member of the Dundee Institute of Architects.
Mathers does not appear in RIBA Kalendars after 1939. She probably gave up practising after her marriage to James Hunter Sutherland, a solicitor. She died at Linlathen House Nursing Home, Arbroath Road, Broughty Ferry, on 15 December 1991.
