Basic Biographical Details Name: | Sidney Vincent North | Designation: | Architect | Born: | 1872 | Died: | 7 March 1951 | Bio Notes: | The son of the architect David Henry North and his wife Agnes, Sydney Vincent North was born at Acton, London, in 1872. Articled to his father between 1889 and 1897 and later assistant to David Wilcock, he also attended classes at the Architectural Association, passing the RIBA qualifying examination in 1900. He was elected ARIBA in 1903, proposed by E W Mountford, W H Seth-Smith and J Slater and FRIBA on 4 March 1907, proposed by H W Rising, E D Drury and E W Mountford.
North commenced independent practice in 1899, entering into partnership with Charles Collas Robin in 1903. The partnership enjoyed almost immediate success being awarded first premium in the Heywood Library competition from the 62 sets of drawings submitted. North died on active service in 1916 but by that date they had been joined by William John Wilsdon, the practice title being North Robin & Wilsdon in the 1920s.
