Basic Biographical Details Name: | Allister Sturrock | Designation: | | Born: | 15 June 1911 | Died: | 31 March 1967 | Bio Notes: | Allister Sturrock was born on 15 June 1911 in Sculcoates, Yorkshire, the son of Alexander Sturrock, engineer, who was Scottish by birth and his wife Frances Elizabeth Spear. He was articled from May 1927 to May 1931 to G D Harvey, the City Architect of Hull. He studied part-time at Hull College of Arts & Crafts. From May 1931 until October 1933 he worked as assistant with the Hull City Architect, during which period he had two testimonies of study approved for his external finals. He attended the diploma course at Edinburgh College of Art from 1933 to 1935 and was awarded his diploma in town planning in June of the latter year. He was admitted ARIBA in 1935. He continued working for the City Architect in Hull after this. The RIBA Kalendar of 1939-1940 records his home address as 'Glencairn', 10 Ings Road, Hull. In 1939 he married Mona Birrell Patrick.
He was a AMTPI by at least 1950. By that year he had taken the post of Kincardine County Architect and Planning Officer. He was still in this post in 1960. He had been elected FRIAS in 1958. He died 31st March 1967 at Stichill, Roxburghshire.
