Basic Biographical Details Name: | Robert N Crawford & Son | Designation: | | Born: | 1889 | Died: | | Bio Notes: | Robert Nicholson Crawford was born c.1841 in Wigtownshire, probably at Garlieston, the son of James Crawford, farm servant, and his wife Euphemia Nicholson. He was in Glasgow by 12 July 1867 when he married Jeannie Rennie, and he commenced business as a stationer and picture frame maker at 330 Crown Street, Gorbals in 1888. In the following year he obtained a post as a sanitary inspector and commenced practice as Robert N Crawford & Son from his house at 295 Crown Street. The son in question cannot have been Andrew Rennie Crawford (born 16 April 1874), who was indeed R N Crawford's son but had only just commenced his apprenticeship with David Thomson at that time; it seems likely that it was instead Robert Crawford, later of Crawford & Eadie, house factors (a firm possibly initiated by his father in partnership with David S Eadie). The practice retained the title of Robert N Crawford & Son until at least 1896.
In the early 1890s Crawford's mind gave way. He died at Gartnavel on 2 March 1910 aged sixty-nine, his address then being 6 Mansebrae, Cathcart. | Private and Business AddressesThe following private or business addresses are associated with this : | | Address | Type | Date from | Date to | Notes | | 295, Crown Street, Glasgow, Scotland | Business | 1889 | After 1894 | |
