Bio Notes: Ralph A Cram was born at Hampton Falls, New Hampshire in 1863. At the age of twenty-four he entered into partnership with Charles Wentworth in Boston. When Wentworth was forced to retire for reasons of health in 1891, the partnership was joined by Bertram Grosvenor Goodhue (born in Pomfret, Connecticut in 1869), who had served his apprenticeship in the office of New York ecclesiastical architect James Renwick. At the same time the general manager of the office, engineer Frank Ferguson, was also taken into partnership, the practice title changing to Cram, Goodhue & Ferguson. The firm was instrumental in bringing the full force of the Gothic revival to American ecclesiastical architecture. Around 1910-12, Goodhue withdrew from the partnership to practise independently in New York, Cram and Ferguson remaining in partnership.
