Bio Notes: Francis Hall was born in 1792 in Clackmannanshire and trained as a civil engineer under Robert Bald. He later becames an assistant in the office of Thomas Telford and remained there for ten years during which time he was almost certainly involved with the construction of the brdge over the Menai Straits. Hall emigrated to Canada in 1823, possibly wiith the intention of obtaining work on the construction of the Welland Canal. He settled in Queenston where he was responsbile for various architectural designs, though only that for the First Brock Monument appears to have been executed. Bald moved to Nova Scotia in 1827 where he supervised the construction of the Shubenacadie Canal. For the remainder of his career he appears to have worked on canals, roads and railways in Upper Canada and the Martime Provinces.

Hall died in 1862.
