Bio Notes: James Barr Brown Boyd was born on 25 March 1899 at Kilmarnock. Nothing is yet known of his training. He was chief assistant in the Glasgow firm of Thomson Sandilands & McLeod and inherited the practice on the death of Alexander Hood MacLeod on 31 December 1941, becoming sole partner and continuing it under the same name.

In the 1950s the practice was absorbed by the unrelated Thomson McCrea & Sanders, but apart from a few large competition perspectives, only the drawings for clients still current passed into their possession.
