Land surveyors, consulting civil engineers, of Glasgow
William Kyle is believed to have been the first professional land surveyor in Glasgow and began business in the city around 1778. Apart from numerous private clients, he worked for public bodies such as Glasgow town council and the Clyde Navigation Trust. On his death in 1837 he was succeeded by his nephew Thomas Kyle (d 1862). Thereafter the business continued under a number of partnership names, including Kyle & Frew, Kyle, Dennison & Frew and Kyle, Dennison & Laing. Latterly it split into two separate firms, Kyle & Frew and Kyle, Dennison & Laing, both described as civil engineers and land surveyors, although the original intention had been to separate out the civil engineering and surveying elements. The main work of the firm was in land surveying. Kyle & Frew was sold in 1965 to a chartered civil engineer in the city
