Basic Biographical Details Name: | Robertson & Robertson | Designation: | | Born: | Before 1866 | Died: | After 1868 | Bio Notes: | William Strathie Robertson was born in Scotland c.1812, the son of James Robertson, mason, and his wife Isabella Strathie. He seems to have trained initially as a mason with his father, eventually becoming a civil engineer with a long English experience in railway bridge construction, during which he married Mary Ann Watson in London c.1849. By 1866 he was in Gladstone, Queensland as partner of the monumental mason and sculptor John Robertson of Brisbane who may have been a relative. In September 1868 Robertson won the competition for Gladstone Town Hall, but subsequently joined the Queensland Public Works Department where he was principally engaged as a foreman of works on bridge construction.
