Bio Notes: James Polworth or Polwarth was born in Berwickshire c.1832, the son of James Polworth, herdsman, and his wife Sarah and appears to have been apprenticed as a joiner. He emigrated to Queensland c.1859 and married Susan Phillips on 4 October 1860. After working as a joiner and painter Polworth was appointed foreman of works in the Colonial Architect's Office in 1866. By 1868 he was in partnership with George John Ely, a stonemason, as architect builders, but the partnership was brief, Polworth dying of delirium tremens at the Lunatic House, Brisbane on 6 May 1871.
