| Bio Notes: | William Henry Allan Munro was born in Inverness in 1856, the son of George Munro, tailor, and his wife Mary Allan. Around 1872 he was articled to Matthews & Lawrie. In 1876 he moved to Edinburgh and after working for several practices there married Isabella Mary Budge c.1881, probably on the strength of having been put in charge of the Workington office of George Dale Oliver of Carlisle. In 1886 he emigrated to become architect to Rooney Brothers of Townsville, Queensland. There he won the competition for the Queensland Hotel and was taken into partnership by Walter Morris Eyre (born 1858) on 1 October 1887, from 1891 as manager of their Charters Towers office. The partnership was dissolved in 1892. |
