Basic Biographical Details Name: | Stuart Oliver William Barron | Designation: | | Born: | 14 February 1886 | Died: | 23 March 1974 | Bio Notes: | Stuart Oliver William Barron was born on 14 Februqary 1886, the son of Oliver BArron, warehouseman, and his wife Jane Anne Dewar. He was an Associate of the Dundee Institute of Architects by 1930 or 1931. By that time he was working in the firm of Maclaren Soutar Salmond, where he was made a partner on Charles Geddes Soutar's retirement in 1946. William Salmond remained senior partner until his death on 2 March 1956, Barron thereafter becoming sole partner. He took Ian Imlach into partnership c.1970, but it was too late to save the practice, which closed in 1972. At the date of closure very few of the practice drawings had survived. A card index of them compiled by Soutar during the First World War survives at RCAHMS, but gives no indication of what was built anew, what was altered or which were competition drawings that may not have been successful.
Barron died on 23 March 1974 when he was described as an architect and surveyor. He was survived by his wife Chsitina Beattie Chalmers and his sons Stuart Davidson Barron and Andrew Oliver Chalmers Barron. | Private and Business AddressesThe following private or business addresses are associated with this : | | Address | Type | Date from | Date to | Notes | | 15, South Tay Street, Dundee, Scotland | Business | Before 1931 | After 1939 | |
