Basic Biographical Details

Name: James Readdie (senior)
Designation:
Born: 1799 or c. 1802
Died: 12 December 1863
Bio Notes: James Readdie was a builder and architect who was born in about 1799 ['Buildings of Scotland'] or1802 [other sources] and who worked in Perth at Hospital or Victoria Street. His wife was Mary Saunders and he had a relative, though not a son also called James, who followed James Readdie senior into the building trade. In 1835 Readdie senior is described as an 'inspector of works'.

James Readdie Senior died on 12 December 1863. It cannot be a coincidence that John Readdie or Reddie was Governor of Perth Poorhouse; he must have been a relative and have suggested that James Readdie senior or junior or David Readdie, also a wright in Perth, who was his brother, enter the compeition.
