Bio Notes: David Jardine was born in Scotland on 2 July 1840, the son of an architect builder, and was articled to his father. He emigrated at the age of twenty to New York where he was briefly an assistant in the office of Edward Thompson prior to practising in association with him until the Civil War. When he resumed practice in New York some years later on his own account he sent first for his brother John and then for a second brother, the firm taking the practice title of Jardine & Jardine. John J Nordin subsequently became a partner.

Jardine & Jardine had a large and successful practice which was responsible for the Fifth Avenue Theatre, the Synagogue at 63rd Street and Lexington Avenue, the Alpine Building on Broadway and several Presbyterian churches. David died at Larchmont, New York on 4 June 1892.
