Basic Biographical Details

Name: John Herbertson
Designation:
Born:
Died:
Bio Notes: John Herbertson was a builder-architect in Galashiels who has sometimes been confused with John Herbertson of Glasgow. If the Scottish Episcopal Church Yearbook is to be trusted he must have been contractor for Brown & Wardrop's St John's Episcopal Church, Selkirk, built in 1867-69. He also built the General's Tower at Riddell, 1885, an observation tower on a medieval motte, but it may have been designed by his client Major General John Sprot of Riddell. He was presumably one of the 'sons' in the firm of Adam Herbertson & Sons of Galashiels.
