Bio Notes: Henry Philip Burke Downing was articled to Alfred Hessel Tiltman and commenced practice on his own account in London in 1888. He was Diocesan Architect for Chichester, consulting architect to the Incorporated Church Building Society and the London Diocesan Fund, and a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries and of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. He wrote a number of books and papers on ecclesiastical architeccture and archaeology. He died on 26 March 1947.
