Basic Biographical Details Name: | John Baillie Noble | Designation: | | Born: | 28 July 1911 | Died: | | Bio Notes: | John Baillie Noble was born on 28 July 1911 and was articled to Carruthers Ballantyne & Taylor of Inverness from 1929 to 1932. Thereafter he completed his training with full-time study at Robert Gordon's Technical College in Aberdeen, passing the qualifying exam in June 1935. He recalls that he entered a scheme for a sports centre for the Rowand Anderson Drawing competition while he was a student. The preparation of this involved more than one all night session - 'I recall a friend and I having not infrequent sips of uisge-beatha to keep us going!'.
After comnpleting the course in Aberdeen Noble moved to London where he worked as assistant first to Joseph Emberton and then to Mauger & May. He was in the latter office when he was admitted ARIBA on 20 July 1936, his proposers being Robert Carruthers Ballantyne, Robert Leslie Rollo and Emberton. He was elected FRIBA in 1955, by which time he was working in the firm of Buckingham & Berry in Norwich. He became a partner in January 1956. His proposers were A G Berry, Stanley Wearing, and Edward Ray Crane. The practice title had changed to Berry Crane & Noble by 1970.
