He was a house carpenter and architect lived and worked in Huntly.
He seems to have been married three times: first to Margaret Shaw in 1884, second to Annie Strachan in 1886, third to Jessie Stewart in 1927. He had four sons and four daughters by his first and second wives.
He died on 4 May 1946.
