Bio Notes: John Walton Taylor was born as John William Taylor in Bishop Auckland, Durham on 3 May 1854. He was articled to William Vickers Thompson and worked for Thomas Oliver. He commenced independent practice in 1881 in Newcastle upon Tyne. He did much work for the Wesleyans and may have been a member of the denomination. In about 1899 he changed his name to J Walton Taylor and signed his name thus from then on. He was President of the Northern Architectural Association from 1902 to 1905. He died at Siloth on 3 December 1915.

Taylor's son, Lawrence, then took over the practice. When Lawrence died in 1939, his son, Leslie Lamb Taylor took over the practice running it successfully for thirty years until his retirement in 1969. Leslie Lamb Taylor died in 1972. He had made Robert Taylor, who was not a relative, a partner and he carried on the firm in the 1970s. However the practice declined after Leslie Lamb Taylor retired and went out of business at some point thereafter.
