He was a builder who specialised in the design of real tennis courts and in decorative plasterwork. He designed courts at Moreton Morrell and Canford Hayling Island as well as at Troon. He ran his business from Seagrave Road, Fulham, London and patented a plaster formula which became the mainstay of indoor tennis and Real tennis courts throughout Britain and in the United States. The particular characteristic of the plaster was that it would withstand damp and condensation.
He faced bankruptcy proceedings when he was in his seventies.
