Designation:
Born: c. 1864

Bio Notes: John Fowlie was born in Fyvie, Aberdeenshire in about 1864, the son of Alexander Fowlie, crofter and his wife Elizabeth Salter. He probably trained as a joiner as he is recorded as such in the 1891 Census. At that time he was living and working in Old Machar, Aberdeenshire. He obtained the post of architect and master of works to the Seafield Estates in 1898 and remained in the post for 15 years. He was married to Annie and they had four sons and two daughters.

He left to move to Macduff in 1913 at which time he was presented with an oak roll-top desk with an inscription which stated 'Presented to Mr John Fowlie, architect, Cullen House, by tradesmen on the Seafield estates, Cullen, Buckie and Keith districts on the occasion of his leaving for Macduff. August 1913'. Mrs Fowlie was presented with an oak silver mounted tray and their son, Tom, with a silver mounted fountain pen.

Fowlie seems to have remained in Macduff at least until the mid-1920s when he was involved in mock Parliamentary debate in the town.
