Basic Biographical Details

Name: Percy Wells Lovell
Designation:
Born: 1877 or 1878
Died: 6 June 1950
Bio Notes: Percy Wells Lovell was born in 1877 or 1878 and was articled to Aston Webb from 1899 to 1901, remaining as assistant until 1904. He commenced independent practice in 1905 and formed the partnership of Foster, Lovell & Lodge c.1910, his partners being Thomas Oliphant Foster and, seemingly, Thomas Arthur Lodge. This partnership was dissolved in or before 1914 when Foster left for India.

Lovell was principally known for his efforts as honorary organising secretary for the London Society from its inception in 1912 until his retirement in 1940, in the early years as right-hand man to Aston Webb. During the First World War he was instrumental, with the backing of the RIBA, in assembling a team of architects to draw up a plan for the future of London. This was published in 1919, and a couple of years later was followed by a massive volume, 'London of the Future', ostensibly edited by Webb although the guiding hand was Lovell's. Lovell was also a member of the Leicester Diocese Advisory Council. He died on 6 June 1950 at the age of 72.
