He completed his certificate course in 1926 and passed the qualifying exam in Edinburgh in December 1927. He remained with Boswell as assistant after completing his apprenticeship, and was still there when he was admitted ARIBA on 4 June 1928, his proposers being Boswell, Thomas Harold Hughes and James Lochhead. Shortly thereafter he emigrated to the USA where he practised as an architect in Boston, Massachusetts.
By the end of 1941 the repercussions of the Second World War had brought the practice virtually to a standstill, and Weir resigned his RIBA membership. The following year he and his then partner, who has yet to be identified, volunteered for military service. At the end of the war Weir's partner went into retirement and Weir moved to Bermuda, where he continued to practise alone. By 1971 it had become a requirement of the Bermuda government that all architects be registered, causing Weir to apply for a reinstatement of his RIBA membership. | Private and Business AddressesThe following private or business addresses are associated with this : | | Address | Type | Date from | Date to | Notes | | 28, Ancaster Drive, Glasgow, Scotland | Private | Before 1928 | After 1929 | | | Boston, Massachusetts, United States of America | Private/business(?) | c. 1928 | 1942 | | | 33, Coolidge Street, Boston, Massachusetts, United States of America | Private/business(?) | 1934 * | | | | The Glen, Paget, Bermuda, West Indies | Private/business(?) | After 1945 | After 1971 | |
