| Bio Notes: | John Comrie Todd was born on 9 August 1909 and was articled to George Penrose Kennedy Young of Perth on 26 October 1925. In 1929 he moved to Aberdeen to enter the diploma course at the School of Art there at fourth-year level, following this with a post-diploma course from which he qualified in June 1932. He returned to Perth and on 12 September that year became a 'temporary assistant' to the then Architect to Perth Education Authority. He was still there the following year, when he was admitted ARIBA on 23 October, his proposers being Robert Leslie Rollo, Robert Gordon Wilson Junior and his former employer George P K Young. Todd had a post with the Miners' Welfare Committee in about 1938. Todd moved to London and worked there in the early 1950s. He emigrated to Singapore in November 1955 with his wife Ester Mo-Yow Yuen who was also an architect and his son, John. She was presumably Malaysian by birth. She had studied at the Architectural Association and qualified ARIBA in 1950. In 1960 she was practising in Kuala Lumpur as Yuen & Todd which must have been the husband and wife partnership. However there is no sign of her husband at this time though he was just over 50. He died in 1959 or 1960. |
