After two years of day classes he joined the office of Dick Peddie & Walker Todd in September 1926, remaining there until August 1931. He undertook his final year at the College from 1931 to 1932 and was admitted ARIBA early the following year, his proposers being Walker Todd, John Begg and John Jerdan. At that time he was working for Jerdan's firm, James Jerdan & Son, at 12 Castle Street, Edinburgh, and was living at 4 Hampton Terrace.
