Born: 7 November 1865
Died: 5 May 1902
Bio Notes: Walter Lockhart Dick Peddie was born in Edinburgh on 7 November 1865, the fifth son of John Dick Peddie, and educated at Fettes College. He may have been less academically minded than his brothers: unlike John More Dick and Coventry he did not go to Elberfeld and of all Peddie's sons he was the only one not to go to university. Instead, he joined his father's firm in 1878, the same year in which his brother John More Dick Peddie was taken into partnership and the firm's name to change to Peddie, Kinnear & Peddie, and was signing drawings at the early age of fourteen. He remained with the firm following his father's and Kinnear's retirements, and his brother's subsequent formation of a partnership with George Washington Browne. The latter partnership was hugely successful, enabling Walter to be accommodated as third partner in 1898. But soon thereafter Walter became ill and emigrated to British Columbia in the hope of recovery. He died there on 5 May 1902 in Victoria, British Columbia and was not replaced.
