Bio Notes: John McNab was born on 27 May 1892, the son of Duncan McNab, enangelist, and his wife Alison Lennox. He was articled to Horatio Kelson Bromhead from February 1910, moving to become assistant in the office of Neil Campbell Duff for one year, followed by a year in the office of Hamilton Neil. During this period he attended classes at Glasgow School of Architecture (1911 to 1916) and the Royal Technical College. In May 1919 he took up a post as assistant architect with Glasgow Education Authority, later becoming chief assistant architect and assistant Master of Works from January 1930, and as such was responsible for 'a large programme of new school buildings in Glasgow, partly carried out by the staff of the authority and partly by professional architects'. From 1928 he also held a part-time teaching post at the Royal Technical College. He was elected LRIBA late in 1930, his proposers being Colin Sinclair, George Arthur Boswell and John Watson. He was still in the Education Office in the late 1940s, at which time he was assisted by Archibald McIntosh Doak.

McNab died at the Western Infirmary, Glasgow on 26 December 1964, survived by his wife Jane Campbell Hutton and his son who was a doctor.
