Basic Biographical Details Name: | David Veitch | Designation: | | Born: | 13 June 1875 | Died: | | Bio Notes: | David Veitch was born at the School House, Port of Menteith on 13 June 1875, the son of Stephen Veitch, schoolmaster and his wife Elizabeth Whyte from Edinburgh. He appears to have been articled in Stirling: when he attended Glasgow School of Art in 1896-97 his address was 69 Wallace Street, Stirling.
Veitch married Janet Crawford at Dixon Hall, Cathcart Road, Govanhill on 22 December 1908. She was the daughter of Robert Nicholson Crawford, Glasgow sanitary inspector and previously architect, and the sister of Andrew Rennie Crawford, with whom Veitch had entered into partnership c.1903.
A R Crawford & Veitch were architects to the Burgh of Cathcart, an appointment which ended when Cathcart became part of Glasgow in the boundary extensions of 1912. The practice appears to have closed thereafter: its business had mainly been tenements, the building of which had been brought to an abrupt close by the Finance Act of 1909. | Private and Business AddressesThe following private or business addresses are associated with this : | | Address | Type | Date from | Date to | Notes | | 1, Dougalston Terrace, Milngavie, Dunbartonshire, Scotland | Private | | | | | 69, Wallace Street, Stirling, Stirlingshire, Scotland | Private | 1896 * | | | | 101, West Nile Street, Glasgow, Scotland | Business | Before 1903 | After 1911 | | | Inchmahome, St James Road, Cathcart, Glasgow, Scotland | Private | 1908 * | | |
