Bio Notes: James Ewing MacLaren was born in September 1884, one of the twin sons of James Marjoribanks MacLaren, who was practising in London, and his wife Margaret. His father died in 1890 when he was only five years old, leaving him and four young siblings in the care of his mother. Record of the younger MacLaren's training is as yet lacking but it was probably with Dunn & Watson. He emigrated with his twin brother John Leslie MacLaren to South Carolina where he practised as an architect. He never married. He died in 1940.
