Basic Biographical Details Name: | John James Honeyman | Designation: | | Born: | 9 April 1864 | Died: | 18 February 1934 | Bio Notes: | John James Honeyman was born in Glasgow on 9 April 1864, the son of Patrick Smith Honeyman and Helen Orr and the nephew of the architect John Honeyman. He studied architecture in Heidelberg but returned to Glasgow to work asan articled apprentice with H & D Barclay in 1883 and studied at Glasgow School of Art. He emigrated to Canada in 1889, crossing the country to Ployart's Swamp in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island where he ranched with another Scot, John Baird. He commenced practice at Nanaimo in 1891, initially in partnership with F T Gregg and married a Scottish emigrant Mabel Dempster on 12 January of the following year. They had four daughters and one son.
In 1897 Honeyman moved practice to Rossland where he met George Dillon Curtis (born in Ireland in 1868) with whom he formed a partnership in Vancouver in 1902. This proposered, the Canadian Pacific Railway being their most important client, but the severe depression in 1931 induced both partners to retire.
